Wii and Old People = Fun

Here’s a cute article about just how much Nintendo has redefined the gamer market.

Wii is now the latest rage at the Sedgebrook retirement community in Lincolnshire, where the average age is 77. … “I’ve never been into video games, but this is addictive,” said 72-year-old Flora Dierbach. “They come in after dinner and play. Sometimes, on Saturday afternoons, their grandkids come play with them … A lot of grandparents are being taught by their grandkids. But, now, some grandparents are instead teaching their grandkids.”

I’m impressed. Props to Nintendo on this one.

So I took my Wii to work (that doesn't sound totally innocent, does it?). Instant hit. Everybody was clamoring to play it, and one person walked out intending to buy it. This has, without fail, happened every single time...
The Wii is out-selling the PS3 6:1 in Japan! It's selling just over 15:1 to the Xbox 360. There seems to be a trend: the Wii was ahead of the PS3 4:1 in April, 5:1 in May, and now 6:1 in June. ...

  1. Same here. I think their stock is probably a good buy, since it’s tapping into a bigger and unprecedented market… which means they can sell more of their product, which means… more profit… which means… higher stock value. Man… If I had the money…

  2. My girlfriend’s parents play Wii somewhat regularly.

    The Wii is absolutely amazing, but needs more games.

    Also agreeing with Jackson on the whole stock market dealio.
